Bradlee Shanks, printmaker, concentrates on nature-based subjects, in particular the Florida gulf coast. He seeks to inspire a sense of awe, as well as reflection on the fragility of an imperiled world. He takes inspiration from Asian landscape painting. Born in South Dakota, Shanks holds a BFA from the University of South Dakota, and an MFA from Arizona State University. He currently lives on Dog Island, a remote barrier island in Florida, after retiring as a printmaking professor from the University of South Florida. Shanks' works have been in over 100 group exhibitions, numerous solo exhibitions, and his work is also in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Nelson Atkins Museum, and the Fogg Museum. |
