Notes |
Richard Sexton was born in Atlanta, Georgia and began photography as an undergraduate at Emory University. In 1974, a year before graduating, Sexton and two of his college friends left Georgia in a station wagon bound for South America, driving to Panama and then by bus, train, and plane as far as Bolivia. A milestone in his life, this trip gave Sexton the opportunity to develop his photography skills. He returned home six months later with over 1,000 negatives and a once-in-a-lifetime experience that resulted in a major photo essay project: Creole World: Photographs of New Orleans and the Latin Caribbean Sphere published by The Historic New Orleans Collection in 2014. Sexton's career has been shaped by documentary photography. He is the author and co-author/photographer of fourteen books. |
