Benjamin D. Rinehart specializes in multimedia images with a strong focus on relief and book construction. Their images depict an autobiographical narrative critiquing relationships between people and personal identity. As a member of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender or Questioning (LGBTQ) community, Rinehart uses personal experience to raise awareness and speak about issues affecting under-represented and marginalized people. Their creative process is deeply influenced by science fiction and superheroes. Born in Fort Wayne, IN, Rinehart received a BFA at Herron School of Art in Indianapolis and an MFA from Louisiana State University. They currently serve as a Full Professor of Printmaking and Artist Books at Lawrence University. Rinehart's work has been in a total of 19 solo exhibitions and over 145 group shows. Their socially charged work is currently a part of 60 public collections and has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including at the Art Institute of Chicago, East Bay Library at California State University, Denver Art Museum, Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University, The Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay & Lesbian Art, Proyecto'ace Print Collection, Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, Hitt Library at University of Central Florida, and the University of Tasmania School of Art. |
