Loranzo Dow Pugh was an Appalachian artist known for his formidable wood carvings. He was born in Monterey, Tennessee in 1906. He worked as a machinist most of his life before becoming a folk artist who frequently used found objects in his artwork. For example, he once made a banjo from an old ham can and made heads from gourds. He died at his home in Monterey in 1993. |
