Notes |
Eva Nikolova works in drawing, printmaking, hand?drawn animation, and cameraless photography. Her work explores themes of memory and identity in relation to place. Since 2012, Nikolova has created hand-drawn, cameraless gelatin silver photographs that blur the lines between drawing and photography. She experiments with a vast inventory of substances, chemicals, and vintage gelatin silver papers, and contemplates transformation and destruction through the prism of architecture and landscape. Her practice evolves through research and exploration, informed by the spirit of experimentation that led to the birth of photography in the 19th century. Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, Nikolova is now based in New York, NY. She holds a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Southern Illinois University, and an MFA in Printmaking from Indiana University - Bloomington. Nikolova has had residencies at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Brush Creek Foundation for the Arts, Millay Colony for the Arts, Vermont Studio Center, and Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts. She has had a solo show at the Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Art Gallery at Columbia University. Her work resides in the collections of Temple University, Manhattan Graphics Center, The Amity Art Foundation, Arkansas State University, and Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts. |
