Notes |
Arthur Kern is an extremely private sculptor who was born in October 27, 1931, New Orleans, Louisiana. He received his BA and MFA Tulane University, New Orleans, LA and was a teacher at the University of Southwest Louisiana from 1967 to 1969, and at Tulane University from 1969 into the 1970s. Very little exists about Kern's life and little documentation of his work is accessible to the public. Kern states that this is due to his value of independence and not wanting his work and ideas to be influenced by the marketplace. However, in 2016 he did consent to the exhibition of a number of his sculptures at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. The exhibit was entitled "Arthur Kern: The Surreal World of a Reclusive Sculptor," and was curated by novelist John Berendt, author of "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil." |
