Nicole Hand is a printmaker working in intaglio to explore themes of maternity, femininity, closure, departures, and correspondence. She places objects in reliquary-like spaces to create literal and abstract symbolism within her compositions. Hand pulls inspiration from contemporary fiction and literature, as well as visual artists Kiki Smith, Eva Hesse, and Leslie Dill. Born in Hornell, NY, Hand has an MFA from the University of Miami (FL). Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in over 300 solo, invitational, and juried exhibitions. Hand's works reside in the collections of the Ham Museum, Gus Fisher Gallery, New Zealand, and theTurku Art Museum, Finland. |
