James Ehlers is a printmaker whose preferred process is metal engraving and whose perspective is rooted in satire and social commentary. His work is informed by Albrecht Durer, Heinrich Aldegrever, Sam Alfano, and Ivan Albright. Ehlers holds a BA from McNeese State University, an MA from Bradley University, and an MFA from the University of Florida. Born in Lake Charles, LA and currently living in Kansas, Ehlers works as a Full Professor of Art at Emporia State University. Ehlers has held residencies at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts for Mural Painting in Tennessee, Evil Print Masters in Missouri, the Partners for Americas in Paraguay, and TAG studio. His work resides in the collection of the Spencer Museum. |
