Dean Dass is a multimedia artist who creates books and works in oil painting, printmaking, and sculpture. He counts Romanticism, Heidegger, Adorno, Paul de Man, and Friedrich Hölderlin among his influences. Dass holds a BA from the University of Northern Iowa, and an MFA from the Tyler School of Art, where he studied with Romas Viesulas and John Dowell. Dass was born and raised in Iowa. He recently retired from the University of Virginia as Professor Emeritus. He has exhibited his work at the Brooklyn Museum National Print Exhibitions, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Library of Congress Rare Books Division, and the Alvar Aalto Museum in Finland. His work resides in 50 public collections. |
