Notes |
Catherine Chauvin produces work via lithography and trace monotype. She is interested in the human alteration of landscape, and her work examines what is done to the environment in the name of progress. She credits ivy, a parasitic plant of tangles and thickets which overwhelms other systems, as a metaphor which informs her current work. Chauvin earned a BFA at Miami of Ohio, an MFA at Syracuse University, and a Master Printer Certificate from the Tamarind Institute. She has collaborated and taught at Anderson Ranch Arts Center, University of North Texas, and the University of Denver. Raised in Kettering, Ohio, she lives in Denver, Colorado and serves as Associate Professor of Studio Art at the University of Denver. Chauvin has participated in residencies at the Burren School of Art in Ireland, Arenys de Munt in Spain, Norfolk Island near New Zealand, Sitka, Oregon and Jentel in Wyoming, all of which have allowed Chauvin to develop bodies of work based on landscape. Her work is part of the Artist Printmaker/Photographer Research Collection (AP/RC), a repository housed in the Art Division of the Museum of Texas Tech University. |
