Blackwell (1948) is a conceptual artist working in two- and three-dimensional media. Her work is largely informed by current events. She is a Louisiana native calling Acadiana home for over 30 years. She attended Newcomb College of Tulane, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the Santa Fe Art Institute, the Vermont Studio Center, and Vermont College of Norwich University where she earned her MFA in 2000. Blackwell has been honored with a Visual Artist Fellowship from the Louisiana Division of the Arts; a public art commission from the Joan Mitchell Foundation and the Arts Council of New Orleans; first prize at the Southern Open, a regional biennial sponsored by the Acadiana Center for the Arts, and a Chevron Foundation grant. She has had numerous solo exhibitions in the Lafayette and New Orleans area. |
