Reynolds Beal was born in New York in 1867. He studied naval architecture at Cornell University. After graduating, Beal turned his focus to art. In the 1890s, Beal studied painting at William Merritt Chase's Shinnecock School on Rhode Island. He traveled to Europe to study with landscape painter, Henry Ward Ranger. Beal exhibited in Paris and New York in the 1920s and was an active in the National Academy of Design and the American Water Color Society. He also helped found the Society of Independent Artists and the New Society of Artists. Beal developed an illness in the late 1920s which limited his ability to produce work. He passed away in 1951. |
