James Bailey utilizes a broad approach to both traditional and experimental printmaking media. His work is often autobiographical, highlighting places and experiences from his life. He cites myriad influences, including African and Oceanic tribal art, cartography, and the artist Richard Mock. Bailey holds an MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a BFA from the University of Minnesota. Born in NY, Bailey grew up in Minneapolis, MN, and is currently a Professor of Art at the University of Montana. He has exhibited his work nationally and internationally in over 300 exhibitions and national print portfolios across 35 states, as well as Estonia, France, China, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. His work resides in the collections of the Walker Art Center, New York Public Library, Jundt Art Museum, and Purdue University. |
